AFS-USA and the American Association of Teachers of French (AATF) are proud to celebrate French language and culture by awarding a $7,500 scholarship to a current high school student interested in broadening their understanding of the Francophone world and strengthening their French language skills. Created with the purpose of encouraging U.S. high school students to pursue authentic experiences using the French language and to provide French teachers an opportunity to recognize promising high school students, AFS-USA and the AATF are excited to support the nomination and participation of a student at the AFS France Summer Language Camp in France in 2025.
Scholarship Reward: Based on a combination of merit and financial need

Available Scholarships: One (1) award
Applicable Programs: This scholarship is only available for the AFS France Summer Language Camp program in June/July.
Application Process: To be considered for this scholarship, applicants will need to speak with their French teacher who, as a member of the AATF, will nominate the student for the scholarship no later than the deadline each year. The deadline typically occurs in late November. (Teachers must log into the AATF member portal to nominate.)
French Language Experience: No previous language experience is required for participation at the France Summer Language Camp, however students are expected to receive a minimum raw, combined score of 40 on the Grand Concours/National French Contest. (Score requirement may change from year to year.)
Students must meet the following eligibility requirements:
- Minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale
- Be between the age of 15 and 16 years 11 months at the time of the program start (June/July).
- Must be nominated on time by a teacher who is a member of AATF.
- Minimum raw, combined score of 40 on the Grand Concours/National French Contest.
- Semi-finalists will be required to submit a full AFS study abroad application including a copy of a valid passport and a completed medical form.
- AATF will select the final candidate and a runner up and notify all teachers of their students' status.
Special notes for teachers:
- Teachers may nominate up to 3 students annually.
- Students will need their parents'/guardians' permission to participate.
- Teacher does need to participate in the Grand Concours/National French Contest so their students have a score to be considered.
- This program and scholarship are designed to encourage younger French students to continue their study of French beyond their current level.
